Recent Developments on in Sriperumbudur- Oragadam Industrial Corridor.

  • The Tamil Nadu government is building the Rs.300 crores Oragadam Industrial Corridor Road. The project, executed by the Tamil Nadu Road Infrastructure Development Corporation (TNRIDC) and funded through the State Highways Department, is expected to give a thrust to industrial activity in the Oragadam-Sriperumbudur cluster. It will also provide additional connectivity between Grand Southern Trunk Road (GST Road i.e. National Highway 45) and Grand Western Trunk Road (NH 4 or Chennai - Bengaluru Highway).
  • According to current news reports, Renowned companies Nissan motors and Ashok Leyland have plans to build a Greenfield manufacturing plant in this region as well.
  • The Outer ring-road project worth Rs 1100 crore is to be implemented by state government covering 62 kilometers from Vandalur to Minjur with Nemilichery in the middle. This will connect with ring-roads at NH205(GST), NH4 ( Chennai- Bangalore), NH 205( Chennai- Renigunda) and NH5 ( Chennai- Kolkatta) and will serve to further enhance connectivity.

Growth in the Sriperumbudur and Oragadam corridor.

Sriperumbudur is an industrial town in Kanchipuram district in proximity to Chennai. Since 2000, Sriperumbudur has seen rapid industrialization, attracting huge investments due to its proximity to Chennai port, infrastructure growth, establishment of STPIs (Software technology park of India), SEZs and availability of quality manpower. Sriperumbudur is strategically placed on the Chennai-Bangalore highway, just about 40 kilometres from the city, and offers all facilities that the international industrial giants want for their business to operate in the country.

Sriperumbudur-Hi-Tech SEZs in an area of 570.92 acres at Sriperumbudur Industrial Park, which consist companies like Hyundai, Saint Gobain, Nokia, CPCL, Asian paints, BSNL and many more.

Oragadam is known for its various industries and workshops pertaining to the automobile sector and is rightly considered as the Detroit of India.

Employment Potential in the region by 2011 is about 150000 jobs. The companies in this region are all set to employ 3 Lakh Employees in the next 2 years.
