We’re pleased to present the first poem on this blog, written by Ashoka Varshini, a climate champion and
It’s time to run ..
Time to be there..
I can do it,
I gotta be fast,
Coz time doesn’t wait,
It keeps moving past.
I need to be there,
for all the people,
whose lives can be changed,
With a run.
I must win,
but run with my friends,
And keep up the spirit,
Till the whole run ends.
For it’s not just a run,
That covers many miles,
It is but a run,
That lights a thousand smiles.
It’s time to run,
Time to be there..
a run for our dreams,
a run for life!

News just in from the organizers: Chennai’s noted drummer Sivamani will be performing live at the Anna Square, where Marg Chennai Marathon will be flagged off tomorrow…
Just one more reason why you should be there tomorrow…

It was 490 BC. Greece was at war with the Persians. A fierce battle was going on in the town of Marathon and the valiant Greeks finally emerged victorious.
Pheidippides, a professional runner who was also a soldier of the victorious side, ran in joy all way from Marathon to Athens, to deliver the good news. On arriving, he is said to have shouted, ”Rejoice, we conquer!” and then dropped dead of exhaustion.
Inspired by the legend of Pheidippides, a long-distance run of 24.8 miles (the distance from Marathon to Athens) was constituted into the first Olympics in 1896. It was named ‘Marathon’ after the battle.
The legend of the soldier has spread far and wide and the practice of marathons still continues. Can Chennai be an exception?
Remember Pheidippides when you run on 29th August – as the man who died to give us marathons!
