MARG Chennai marathon held on 29 August 2010 was huge hit with around 70000 people participating. Reclaim our beaches (an NGO) was one among them.

“Reclaim our beaches” are a group of people who believe that non-human species too have a fundamental and inviolable right to the planet and its resources. They believe that the current manner in which the earth’s resources are shared among people and among species is highly inequitable.

We also believe in their statement that “The state of our beach is a reflection of our apathy, and our failure to practice democracy. We believe that the beach belongs to lovers, hawkers, walkers, Frisbee players, the elderly, the turtle and the fisher folk. But we are also clear that livelihood rights of the poor ought to receive higher priority.”

MARG Chennai marathon held on 29 August 2010 was grand success with a whooping 70000 participants. Members from free Hugs participated too. They celebrated a HUGATHON on the DAY of MARATHON!

Chennai runners are an informal assembly of people who share a passion for running. The group comprises of young, young at heart, and people whose youthfulness belies their age. They train together, travel to races, exchange stories and experiences among themselves.

MARG thanks Chennai runners for their active participation and wish them success in their endeavors

The HINDU: Making a difference simply by running

Sometimes, sport is not about the competition. It transcends into a community event. Sometimes, grand old men can participate in a marathon, with their six-year-old granddaughter sitting pretty on their shoulders. Sometimes, you can make a difference… just by running.

Ibnlive: Santosh, Pampa win Chennai Marathon:

Santosh Kumar of Maharashtra and Pampa Chanda of West Bengal bagged the honours among men and women respectively in the third edition of Chennai Marathon here today. Santhosh clocked one hour seven minutes and nine seconds in the 21.09 km run to claim top prize of Rs 3 lakh. In the women’s event, Pampa won with a timing of one hour 21 minutes and 42 seconds. Among Tamil Nadu men, Nagendra Rao was the fastest, clocking one hour, seven minutes and 16 seconds in the event, organised with aid of ‘GiveLife’ charity. Among Tamil Nadu women, Sudha grabbed top honours, with Padmavathi and Shanthi coming in second and third respectively.
